The EPA recommends radon testing on every real estate transaction because radon is a known human carcinogen and is the #1 cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. It is a tasteless, odorless, and colorless gas, and the only way to know if it is present in a home is to have it tested. Radon is a radioactive gas emitted from decaying Uranium found in soil, rock and water and is especially high in areas where granite is present.
Castle Home Inspection makes testing for Radon easy and efficient by placing detectors around the home during your inspection. After the 48hr test concludes, we the process the data and email you a report with your results.
In the state of Illinois, the action level for radon is 4 pCi/L. Anything above that level should be mitigated to reduce the radon concentration in the home to a tolerable level. All homes should be tested for radon before purchase, regardless of age or building type. Also, it is recommend that all homeowners have their radon levels retested periodically as levels can change over time due to changes in soil composition or ventilation
